Here we are then - Day 1 of the main event!
Today’s scores will be added to tomorrow’s to give everyone a combined score out of 600, so we won’t know who’s in the running for the win until around lunchtime tomorrow.
That said, the overnight scores are still very interesting!
The ones to watch are Mark Shaw and David Priestman, both leading the field on 100/298.
Sharing 3rd are Paul Chaplow (99/296) and Marty Smith (100/296).
Up until their last round, both Paul and Toby Bean were firmly in charge of the board on 75/225 each, and the only ones who could potentially get the 100/300. However, both of them dropped points and it wasn’t to be.
In equal 5th, we find two top performers from yesterday – Bob Clarke and Lee Wilcoxson on 99/295.
There’s another tie in 7th between Nicky Waghorne, Paul Turner, and Toby, all on 294.
And then we have the big chasing pack clumped together in 10th. 6 shooters, all on 293 – Keith Bond, Lewis Holden, Nigel Chapman, Peter Relph, Sean Rotherham, and Shaun Gardener.
Anyone below that is going to need a perfect performance themselves, and for other results to be in their favour to have a realistic chance of making the podium tomorrow, but if that doesn't happen, there are still class prizes (and possibly medals) to fight for in each class.
That’s good news for me because I happen to be sharing 16th place with a 99/292.
The first round was going fairly well until I got to peg 4. Then, in my last 10 targets, 3 second barrels and a whole target got away, and I came off the line thinking “This is annoying me now…”
A few moments of reflection was all it took to decide that we weren’t having a repeat of yesterday, and out I went to put it right.
What followed wasn’t perfect, but pretty darn close - a 25/74, 25/74, and 25/75 with many of them hit dead centre. That’s how you turn things around!
I don’t have to do anything special tomorrow – just carry on from where I left off, keep doing what works, and I should be in a decent position come close of play.
Best of luck to everyone!
